40:40 TRENTO – Fiori al centro

The 40:40 edition of Camposaz took place as part of the “Fiori al Centro” event, during Trento’s year as European Volunteering Capital, in collaboration with the Parks and Gardens Office of the Municipality of Trento and AgaTN association. The workshop involved peripheral areas of the city that are usually excluded from the urban festival, particularly the Gardolo neighborhood (EC02_Open Park) and the Madonna Bianca/Oltrefersina area (Via Fermi Garden). In both regions, participatory meetings with the local community were held before the workshop to gather ideas and suggestions for the project’s development.

During the self-construction workshop, participants from all over Europe (Portugal, England, Ukraine, France, Italy, etc.) collaborated to create the installations, experimenting with the potential of timber in participatory architecture. In Via Fermi Garden, we created an ‘architectural snake’ starting with its head looking at the road as a sign to make the park more visible and welcome people. Then, a seating area as a tribune to rest and watch football matches in the playground, and to mark different functional spaces in the lawn. The ‘tail’ of the snake is located on the Western side of the park under a set of trees and is composed of a bench that wraps around one of the park’s trees and a large platform with a ramp to relax in the shade on summer days. For EC02_Open Park, geometric modular elements were designed and created in Via Fermi, then transported and painted in bright colors in the park in Gardolo. These objects are designed to be easily moved and used in different ways, promoting flexibility in their use.

The installations created are modular and multifunctional urban furniture, designed to stimulate social interaction, outdoor gatherings, and inclusive play, adapting to the needs of the spaces and the community.
