38:38 – Weil Der Stadt

Reclaiming space for pedestrians and children by taking it away from cars is the project’s main objective, developed for Weil der Stadt in collaboration with @urbanes.land. At the entrance to the town’s school complex, which houses a nursery, kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools, several small and modular temporary structures will occupy the space around the bus stop, preventing illegal car parking while extending the area where children can play.

The design and positioning of these structures are conceived in dialogue with other art installations, which will contribute to developing a path along one of the town’s main streets. This will be transformed into an area where pedestrians and bicycles have priority. Imagining the street as a river and the area in front of the schools as a gulf, the structures are configured as islands that allow people to stop and rest while waiting for the bus or to play, imagining stories and landscapes.

The elements exploit the potential and characteristics of the triangle as a minimal element that allows the creation of stable structures with few components, creating shadows and a varied skyline while shielding the street and traffic. The triangular elements serve as both seating benches and platforms, formed by combining various triangular modules in innovative ways, both in plan and section. These versatile structures provide a comfortable and inviting space for pedestrians and children to gather and relax.

If observed from the street, the structures create a perspective that invites the eye to follow the vertices of the different triangles, which interact with each other at various heights.
